Emily Wainwright has 30 years of experience in international development and global health, focusing on health systems strengthening, maternal and child health, nutrition, and infectious diseases—including neglected tropical diseases. Her work spans the globe, encompassing conflict and post-conflict zones, regions facing food insecurity, authoritarian regimes, and areas affected by environmental disasters.
Over her 27-year career at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Emily held technical leadership roles in the Bureau for Global Health, including Technical Advisor for Child Survival in Europe and Eurasia, Senior Technical Advisor for Infectious Diseases and Environmental Health, and Technical Advisor for Micronutrients. As a leader within USAID’s Neglected Tropical Disease Program from 2011 to 2024, she advanced the program’s strategy, expansion, and sustainability on a global scale. Earlier in her career, Emily worked in Bangladesh with UNICEF and the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC), served as a clinical nutritionist at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and was an assistant professor in the Nutrition, Education, and Research Program at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Reno. She is currently an independent consultant and Sponsored University Associate at Georgetown University’s Department of Global Health, collaborating with the IN Lab (INnovating on INfectious disease INterventions).
