As many as 3.8 million young women in Côte d’Ivoire are at risk of a parasitic infection which can lead to abortion, infertility and a four-fold increase in the risk of HIV.
Yet women have no access to the care that can prevent and treat it.
Why?
Because lack of knowledge among communities and health workers leads to misdiagnosis of female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) as a sexually transmitted infection. This brings stigma and stops women seeking help.
And even when women do seek treatment, appropriate services do not exist.
Women in Côte d’Ivoire won’t let stigma and lack of services keep them in the shadows.
Your donation will support women at risk in Côte d’Ivoire* to receive the preventive treatment and health education they need.
Our campaign – part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge – is live! Until noon on December 5, every pound you donate will be doubled by our generous sponsors.
*This campaign will help provide services for up to 140,600 women over two years and enable the future roll-out of FGS services across the whole of Côte d’Ivoire.
