Connecting animal, human, and environmental health: strengthening One Health systems to accelerate parasitic disease elimination

5 June 2026

This World Environment Day, we are reminded that human health is deeply connected to the health of our environment. Many neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), including schistosomiasis, are shaped by environmental conditions such as access to safe water, sanitation, and healthy ecosystems.

At Unlimit Health, we recognise that addressing these challenges requires more than disease-specific interventions. Through a One Health Systems Strengthening (OHSS) approach, we work alongside ministries of health and partners across sectors to strengthen the systems that support human, animal and environmental health.

By improving coordination, building capacity, strengthening data systems and fostering collaboration across disciplines, we can create more resilient health systems that are better equipped to prevent disease, respond to emerging threats and improve health outcomes for communities and the environments in which they live.
