SCI Foundation welcomes the World Health Assembly’s decision on the NTDs road map

12 November 2020

SCI Foundation congratulates WHO on the unanimous adoption by Member States at the World Health Assembly of the new NTD road map 2021-2030. The road map is the guiding document for the global response to 20 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) over the next decade.

It provides a comprehensive guide for all endemic countries and their partners to achieve and sustain ambitious disease control and elimination targets.

SCI Foundation welcomes the significant paradigm shifts included in the road map:

  • From a focus on process measurement to measuring impact
  • From disease specific focus to holistic, cross cutting approaches and health systems strengthening
  • From an externally driven agenda and reliance on donor funding to country ownership and financing

Speaking about the announcement, Wendy Harrison, CEO of SCI Foundation, said:

“The adoption of the NTD road map gives us all within the NTD community a clear mandate for our programmes to focus on impact and reach out across sectoral divides, and reinforces the need for endemic countries to take full ownership of their NTD strategies”.

As an organisation that works directly with Ministries of Health, SCI Foundation fully supports countries to build resilient health systems and is thrilled about the multi-sectoral collaboration aspects of the road map that will potentially see the expansion of a One Health approach for disease detection, prevention and control.

SCI Foundation stands ready to support the delivery of the road map.
