In memoriam: Dr Ricardo Thompson 1961–2020

SCI Foundation is deeply saddened by the untimely death of Dr Ricardo Thompson. Ricardo’s drive, enthusiasm, technical expertise, kindness and generosity will be sorely missed by the NTD community and the African public health sector.

Ricardo’s contribution to public health research and evaluation spanned many of the major public health problems in Africa, namely HIV & AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, NTDs, and other parasitic and infectious diseases.

We at the SCI Foundation were so grateful for Ricardo’s unwavering support as we worked with the Ministry of Health of Mozambique in the delivery of the national SCH programme. Ricardo also served on our Scientific and Technical Advisory Board from May 2017, generously sharing his experience and insights and helping us to evolve as an organisation. We also appreciated Ricardo’s leadership of the Africa Regional Programme Review Group, on which SCI served as observers.

Ricardo will be deeply missed, but we are so grateful to have benefited from his massive contribution to public health. All our thoughts are with his family at this incredibly difficult time.
