The Lancet One Health Commission calls for a fundamental shift in how we approach global health, recognising that human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected. It argues that major global challenges such as infectious disease, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), food insecurity and the climate crisis cannot be solved in isolation. A systems approach is needed that addresses the root causes of ill health through joined-up action across disciplines, sectors and borders.
The report places particular emphasis on strengthening surveillance, transforming food systems, tackling the environmental drivers of disease and building resilient, inclusive health systems. It also pushes for socioecological transformation, where policies and institutions work together to create sustainable, equitable solutions.
