Together with our ministry of health partners, we supported the delivery of 30 million treatments, reaching 21 million people at risk in six countries.
The year we helped deliver the world’s first paediatric treatment for schistosomiasis to pre-school children in Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire, supporting governments to finalise strategies, build tools and run initial pilots. In Zanzibar, our long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Health reached a milestone with the delivery of the 12 billionth dose of albendazole, reflecting a reduction in schistosomiasis prevalence from 50 percent to under 2 percent.
We also strengthened global thinking and action on WASH through WHO-led evidence reviews, new guidance and community-driven projects, including work in Uganda to reduce exposure to contaminated water using improved, locally appropriate technology. In Northern Uganda, we are leading a research initiative funded through a consortium award to tackle pork tapeworm transmission, using integrated human and animal interventions to reduce the burden of neurocysticercosis on marginalised communities.
