The challenge
Over 250 million people worldwide need treatment for schistosomiasis. Among them, 50 million are preschool-aged children—the most at risk from parasitic disease.
In Zanzibar, we’ve worked for years with the Ministry of Health to deliver treatment and reduce disease prevalence. But the youngest children have been left behind.
Why it matters
Children are at the highest risk of infection. Yet, until now, there has been no suitable treatment for preschoolers.
Current tablets are too large, bitter, and hard for young children to swallow.
The breakthrough
Together with the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium, we’ve developed a new child-friendly treatment. The new tablets are smaller, dispersible in water and less bitter.
Your impact
This Christmas, we’re joining forces with the Big Give Campaign to raise funds to pilot the delivery of this new treatment for 100,000 preschoolers in Zanzibar.
